WASHINGTON — Foreign money in an American election is supposed to be a siren. Last week the House dropped staff reports and internal ActBlue mail that make the siren loud: a “passport check” that counted digits and did not check a government database; staff notes to look for reasons to accept; a “great accept” on a donor whose IP sometimes sat in Hong Kong; outside counsel language that illegal foreign contributions looked “knowing and willful”; a legal-and-compliance shop that emptied after 2024. That is not a blog rumor. That is a committee exhibit.
The propaganda mouths treated it as weather. Media Research Center analysts ran the flagship morning and evening shows on ABC, CBS, and NBC from September 16 forward. ActBlue: zero seconds. The scandal: not a syllable. The same desks that can find a Republican sneeze in six time zones could not find a Democratic pipeline with a foreign IP. Call them by the handles they use when they want a trending topic: @ABC, @CBSNews, @NBCNews. Add the cable cousins who run the same playbook — @CNN, @MSNBC — and the prestige print that decides what is “serious”: @nytimes, @washingtonpost. @FoxNews put the memos on air. The rest ran cover.
ActBlue is the Democrats’ ATM. If the machine takes a card from overseas, the party does not get to call it a glitch and change the subject to “Republican theater.” House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil has said only Americans should decide American elections. CEO Regina Wallace-Jones swore a verification process existed. The paper now says the process was a character count. That is the story. The mouths skipped it because an investigation led by House Republicans is, in their catechism, illegitimate until a Democrat chairs the hearing.
Critics name the Chinese Communist Party as the logical customer of a hole that large. The committee record so far says foreign — including a Hong Kong IP — not a stamped wire from Zhongnanhai. The cover-up of the hole is still the cover-up. If the networks wait for an indictment to mention the word ActBlue, they are not newsrooms. They are a delay.
