House Erupts as Rep. Rashida Tlaib Accused of Hezbollah Ties During Lebanon Debate

2 min read

Washington, D.C. – Tensions boiled over on the House floor Wednesday as Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) directly confronted Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) over what he described as her advocacy for Hezbollah, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization. The clash occurred during debate on Tlaib’s war powers resolution aimed at restricting U.S. support for Israeli operations in Lebanon.

Miller accused the Michigan Democrat of siding with terrorists, stating, “Hezbollah is a terrorist organization… and its members are butchers that you like to hang out with to a certain extent.” He further claimed Tlaib “advocate[s] for a terrorist regime every single day.” Tlaib immediately objected, leading to parliamentary chaos that halted proceedings for over an hour. House leaders eventually restored order.

Tlaib has introduced measures to block U.S. assistance to Israel in its conflict with Hezbollah, which has escalated following attacks on Israel. Critics note her resolutions notably omit mention of Hezbollah’s role or its Iranian backing, focusing instead on alleged Israeli actions in Lebanon.

This is not the first time Tlaib has faced scrutiny over alleged connections. In 2019, she drew criticism for appearing with activist Abbas Hamideh, who has publicly praised Hezbollah. The Anti-Defamation League called for clarification on her ties to the individual. More recent watchdog reports have highlighted associations with organizations and individuals linked to designated terrorist groups, including fundraising patterns and event appearances raising national security concerns.

Tlaib, a vocal critic of Israel and advocate for Palestinian causes, denies supporting terrorism and frames her positions as standing against what she calls occupation and injustice. Supporters view the accusations as politically motivated smears, while opponents argue her actions undermine U.S. allies and embolden Iran-backed militants.

The incident underscores deepening partisan divides over U.S. Middle East policy amid ongoing conflicts involving Israel, Hezbollah, and Hamas. Tlaib’s resolution is scheduled for a vote, with Republicans largely opposing it as pro-terrorist and some Democrats seeking modifications.
