While everyday Virginians face fines for forgetting a pistol in their car during a quick errand, privileged lawmakers can stash weapons in their taxpayer-funded parking spots without consequence. Republican Senator Richard H. Stuart blasted the bill during debates, highlighting how it endangers citizens by forcing them to disarm in vulnerable situations, all while the ruling class plays by different rules. Stuart’s warnings fell on deaf ears as Democrats rammed through HB 110 and a slew of other anti-gun bills, including bans on “assault firearms” and high-capacity magazines, over fierce GOP opposition.
