They Manufacture the Crisis Then They Sell the Lock

WASHINGTON — Steve Eisman said out loud what this desk has been saying for weeks. The Terminator talk is garbage. Token-maxing is over. Open-weight models are eating share. The labs have no moat. So they manufacture a crisis and hope Congress writes them one. “They think they can then manipulate [regulation] to create the moats, to create the duopoly that they want.” That is not a blogger. That is the man who shorted the housing lie.

We told you the panic was a product. Sanders, Booker, Guterres, and the evening news all found the same cliff in the same week. Safety is the costume. A license only two firms can afford is the product. When a shop that spent a decade fighting rules suddenly begs for rules, the detector should be at eleven. Eisman just put a name on the motive.

The Fed is running the same play with a different seal. They call it independence. They hike into a midterm and tell the kitchen table it is science. Rates are a timing desk. AI “safety” is a timing desk. Both rooms talk as if the public is a child and the grown-ups have to hide the matches. Both rooms lie through their teeth when the match is their market share.

Eisman dared the labs to postpone the IPO if they believe their own sermon. Put the money where the press release is. The Fed will not take that dare either. Officials who need a scare do not volunteer a delay. They volunteer a hearing.

A republic would treat open models as competition and rates as a vote you can fire. A corporate-conglomerate treats both as inventory. The crisis is not Skynet. The crisis is a locked door with a government stamp on it. We said it before the clip. The clip just proved we were not guessing.
