Washington, D.C. – July 23, 2025
A growing controversy has erupted in the nation’s capital as allegations surface that Democratic advocacy networks, funded in part by taxpayer grants, are being repurposed to target U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents through doxing and harassment campaigns. Critics, including Republican lawmakers and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials, claim these networks are fueling violence against federal officers while promoting a broader propaganda effort to discredit President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies. High-profile Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), have been accused of amplifying this rhetoric, with some asserting it emboldens violent foreign nationals to destabilize American communities.
A Taxpayer-Funded Network Under Scrutiny
According to sources within the DHS, advocacy groups receiving federal and state grants—originally intended to support community outreach, legal aid, and immigrant rights—have shifted their focus to activities that undermine federal law enforcement. These groups, often aligned with progressive Democratic causes, are accused of organizing efforts to track, expose, and harass ICE agents. One such initiative, StopICE.net, created by activist Sherman Austin, has gained attention for allowing users to report suspected ICE activity, alerting communities to evade enforcement actions. The site claims over 470,000 subscribers nationwide, raising concerns among federal officials about the safety of ICE agents and their families. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin has publicly condemned these actions, stating, “People doxing our officers and impeding ICE operations are siding with vicious cartels, human traffickers, and violent criminals.” She pointed to a 700% surge in assaults on ICE agents since President Trump’s return to office, citing incidents where agents were attacked with rocks, bricks, and even gunfire during raids. A specific case in Los Angeles involved Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.), who allegedly displayed an ICE officer’s business card to a crowd, leading to an agent being struck by a rock and requiring stitches.
AOC’s Role in the Propaganda Campaign
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as a central figure in the controversy, with critics accusing her of leading a propaganda campaign to vilify ICE and undermine President Trump’s immigration crackdown. In a fundraising email sent in May 2025, Ocasio-Cortez called for the abolition of ICE, describing it as a “rogue agency” that should not exist. The email, obtained by Fox News, sparked backlash from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), which labeled her rhetoric as dangerous and inflammatory. Ocasio-Cortez’s actions extend beyond rhetoric. She has been linked to a February 2025 webinar instructing constituents on how to impede ICE arrests, prompting a potential Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation. Border Czar Tom Homan, a staunch defender of Trump’s policies, fired back, stating, “You can’t knowingly impede ICE law enforcement officers. That is a felony.” He emphasized that such actions cross legal boundaries, accusing Ocasio-Cortez of encouraging criminal behavior under the guise of advocacy. The White House has also weighed in, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt urging Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez to meet with ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents to understand their work. “These are honorable Americans trying to enforce the law,” Leavitt said, noting a 700% increase in assaults on federal immigration officers compared to the previous year.
Violence and Foreign Nationals in American Cities
The DHS and ICE have reported a sharp rise in violent incidents tied to anti-ICE activism, with some attributing the unrest to foreign nationals exploiting the chaotic environment fostered by Democratic rhetoric. Since Trump’s inauguration, ICE has arrested 66,463 illegal immigrants and removed 65,682, many with criminal convictions for serious offenses like rape, assault, and manslaughter. Notable cases include Julian Lema Bravo, an Ecuadorian national convicted of rape, and Luis Alejandro Castillo-Torres, a Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang member with multiple assault charges. Critics argue that Democratic leaders’ refusal to condemn violent protests and their push to unmask ICE agents—through proposed legislation in states like New York and California—creates a dangerous environment. A bill introduced by Sens. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) would require immigration officers to forgo masks and display clear identification, a move opponents say facilitates doxing and endangers agents’ families. Former ICE agent Scott Mechkowski told Newsweek, “Everyone knows the reasons for the masks. Every agent knows they would be doxed [along with] their families.” In Los Angeles, protests against ICE raids have turned violent, with federal agents facing flash bangs, rocks, and even gunfire. A July 4 ambush in Alvarado, Texas, saw ten individuals charged for attacking an ICE facility, with one suspect, a former Marine reservist, still at large. President Trump condemned the incident, stating, “Tremendous damage was done to these brand new vehicles. I know for a fact that these officers are having a hard time with allowing this to happen in that it shows such total disrespect for LAW AND ORDER.”
