Raskin Threatens Americans, Oppose Us And Prison For You

House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin recently laid out a clear plan on Meet the Press. If Democrats regain the House, federal pardons issued by President Trump will not protect administration officials or allies. Raskin stated that pardons cover only federal criminal matters. They do not block civil lawsuits or state-level prosecutions.

Raskin described the administration as engaged in “shaking down the federal government” and turning executive agencies into “a money-making operation.” He advised lawyers and others associated with Trump to avoid the fate of figures such as Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, who faced disbarment, suspension, and multiple prosecutions. The message was direct: association with this administration carries professional and legal risk that a presidential pardon cannot eliminate.

This is not routine congressional oversight. Raskin previously led the second impeachment of Trump and served on the January 6 committee that issued criminal referrals. His latest comments preview continued use of civil courts and friendly state prosecutors against political opponents even after the executive branch exercises its constitutional pardon power. Democrats spent years insisting no one is above the law. Now their likely Judiciary Committee chairman is openly promising that the law will be applied selectively against one side regardless of presidential clemency.

The approach mirrors Chicago-style machine politics more than constitutional governance. It treats the pardon power—an explicit Article II authority—as an obstacle to be worked around rather than a check respected by coordinate branches. Civil suits and state actions become the tools of choice when federal criminal charges are unavailable. The practical effect is to deter public service and chill association with a duly elected administration. That is lawfare by design, not accountability applied evenly.

Americans watching these statements see the difference between equal application of the law and a political apparatus that refuses to accept electoral outcomes or constitutional limits. When opposition is met with open threats of professional destruction that outlast pardons, the distinction between governing and settling scores collapses.
