WASHINGTON — American law is not a suggestion. It is the condition of the refuge. In Minnesota that condition has been treated as optional. Federal prosecutors have charged dozens for billing Medicaid and pandemic programs for meals, housing, and autism services that never existed. The exposure runs into the billions. The great majority of those charged in the major cases come from the Somali community that arrived as refugees. Some of the proceeds, according to counterterrorism sources, reached Al-Shabaab. State Democratic officials under Governor Walz knew the red flags and moved slowly. The political cost of enforcement outweighed the legal cost of looking away.
Ilhan Omar’s district is the center of that community. Her campaign took small donations from people later convicted in the meal fraud; she returned them. Her financial disclosures showed a sudden multi-million-dollar jump in assets tied to her husband’s businesses, later amended after questions. A congressional ethics body recommended dismissing the disclosure complaint. The Justice Department examined her finances under the prior administration and has sought records on family immigration history. She has not been charged. The pattern that matters is the concentration of open fraud inside a voting bloc that Democratic machines treat as untouchable. Enforcement is delayed. Scrutiny is called bigotry. The law is applied to everyone else.
The same disregard travels. Democratic administrations expanded parole pathways, suspended interior enforcement, and treated the southern border as a processing center. Cities and states run by the same party declared themselves sanctuaries and then demanded federal money to manage the arrivals they invited. In France the parallel is already older: successive governments refused to enforce assimilation standards in the banlieues, and the 2026 riots followed the map of those neighborhoods. National American media covered the French fires as a cost-of-living story and the Minnesota fraud as a local accounting problem. Both omissions protect the same coalition.
The choice is no longer abstract. A vote for the Democratic ticket is a vote for the continuation of these policies—non-enforcement of immigration statutes, selective prosecution of welfare fraud when the perpetrators are inside the preferred demographic, and the political protection of elected officials whose districts produce the largest caseloads. The refuge was offered under the laws of the United States. The second agenda treats those laws as obstacles. The destruction is not a future risk. It is the present result of the refusal to apply the statutes that already exist.
